Valentine's Day, from the dog

In plenty of homes the dog is the most devoted one in the house: always pleased to see you, never forgets a walk. On 14 February, let the dog say it for you.

Why a Valentine from the dog works

It takes the pressure off. A card from the dog can be soppy in a way a card from you might not be, and it's funny without being a joke present. It suits a new couple and a forty-year marriage equally well, and it's a kind thing to send someone who lives alone with their dog.

And it's personal in the way that counts: it's their dog on it, not a dog. The portrait is made from a photo of the dog, with its name lettered on.

The Valentine's look

Our Valentine's look puts the dog beside red roses with a sealed love note, painted-style in oils or as a film-style snapshot. If you'd rather it hung on the wall all year, choose a classic oil portrait instead and let the card do the talking.

Ideas from the dog

  • A card from the dog, from £5. Blank inside, so the dog can sign it with a drawn paw.
  • A mug from £19, with the dog's portrait and name, for the first cup of tea on the 14th.
  • A framed print from £39: the one that stays up after the roses have gone.

What the dog might write

A few lines to borrow for the card:

  • Thank you for the walks, the treats and for sharing the sofa. Mostly the sofa. Love, Biscuit x
  • I'd still choose you. Possibly over sausages.
  • Happy Valentine's Day to my favourite human. Your loyal dog.

Ordering in time

Valentine's Day is always 14 February, and the posts are busy in the run-up. From early January the last order date for each product is at the top of this page, worked out from how long each one takes to make and post.

Everything is made to order (2–5 working days) and then posted. The delivery time and cost are shown on each product page before you buy.

No photo? Give a gift card

If you can't get a good photo of their pet without giving the game away, a Fancy Pet gift card lets them choose for themselves. It's emailed, straight away or on the morning you pick, for any amount from £10 to £75. It's in pounds, used in one order and lasts 2 years.

Questions

Is it from the dog, or from me?

Whichever you like. The card is blank inside, so you write the message: from the dog, from both of you, or from you with the dog's name added at the end.

When should I order for Valentine's Day?

With a week or two to spare. From early January this page shows the last order date for each product for UK delivery. Missed it? A gift card is emailed on the morning of the 14th, if you like.

Do I need a perfect photo of their pet?

No. Any clear photo where you can see the face works, even one from social media or a family group chat. You'll see the finished portrait free before you buy, so you know whether the photo was good enough.
