Van Gogh's 1889
Vincent van Gogh painted for barely ten years and sold almost nothing while he lived. In May 1889 he went into the asylum at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, and over the next year painted some of his best-known work there, including The Starry Night that June.
What makes a painting look like his is the paint itself: impasto, laid on so thickly it stands off the canvas, in short directional strokes that follow the form. Complementary colours sit side by side, blue against orange, green against red, so the picture seems to vibrate. He used it on portraits as much as on landscapes, his postman and his doctor among them.
How our van gogh style looks
Our Van Gogh style borrows that language: heavy, confident strokes you could almost touch, bold complementary colour, and movement in the background. It isn't a copy of any one painting, and your pet keeps their own markings and face.
It's the loudest of our painted styles, which makes it a good one for clothes and mugs.
Scenes it suits
Van Gogh works brilliantly outdoors and at night. Golden hour gives it a field to swirl in, and On the moon gives it a sky. Christmas in Van Gogh style has its own starry night. A plain portrait looks bold and modern, and Sleepy & cosy is lovely in thick warm strokes.

Questions
Is it painted by hand?
No. It isn't painted by hand. It's painted-style: an AI image model makes it from your photo, so you see it in about a minute rather than waiting weeks for an artist. It's made to look like a Van Gogh oil painting, and it's printed, not painted, on whatever you order.
Is this an official Van Gogh product?
No. It's a portrait in the manner of his late paintings, the thick strokes and bold colour, made by an AI model. It isn't connected to the Van Gogh Museum or any of his paintings.
Will it still look like my pet?
It should: the model keeps their markings, ear shape and expression from your photo, and only the paint changes. If a first go doesn't look like them, you'll see that free before deciding anything.
What does it cost to try?
Nothing. Add a photo and you see the finished picture in about a minute, with no account and no card. Seeing it is free, and we'll email you the full-size file free too. You only pay if you choose a print, mug, card or other product.
